Bumps (18b/20)

(Anonymous) 2012-02-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Janet snorted a laugh but gained composure when Diego who stood in front of them began to talk to the large crowd.

The ceremony was simple and beautiful and when Janet said "I do" with her face filled with tears of happiness Charon could only grin.

One small person had came and changed his life. She freed him, she loved him and she bore him a child.

"You look so beautiful." He spoke as he kissed her.

"I probably did before but I can't stop crying." She smiled wildly "Oh my god I'm a mess."

"You look fine Mrs Hutchison."

"Oh ! Oh my gosh so I am !" Janet bellowed and caused Charon to laugh loudly as it only caused her to cry more.

"I thought she was meant to be the toughest in the wasteland!" Harkness mocked.

She punched his arm.

"I felt that !" Harkness stood agape "Jesus she is stronger, Charon keep your wife under control."

Charon laughed and hugged Janet from behind kissing her and Alex, who she held.

"I will tonight." He whispered into her ear sending a shiver down her back.

"First we're dancing."

Charon could only bark a laugh when he heard Butch make a whipping noise behind him.

"That's it starting man. The old ball and chain."

Harkness had managed to set up a record player next to the ships PA system. Music echoed along the decks and the crowd danced to the familiar songs.

"I think i'm the best dancer here." Bannon boasted to Vera.

He spun Vera and danced awkwardly to the music. Butch and Janet could only smirk to each other and he took her hand to dance. Positioning themselves in front of the boasting couple. They began to swing dance with the effort and ease that came with 5 years of vault lessons.

Vera stood mouth wide and Bannon sneered. As Butch swung Janet out Charon grabbed her and began to spin her, feet no where near the ground.

"I think that's cheating smoothskin."

"They needed some tips." Janet giggled.

He continued to spin her until they were interrupted by Nova and Gob.

"May I ?" Gob bowed.

Janet giggled with a curtsy and span away with him. Charon held his hand for Nova and spun her gracefully.

"You're a lucky man." She spoke to the large ghoul.

"I know." He grinned "So when are you and Gob announcing things."

"What us ? No. No. There's nothing there !"

"He told me."

"He did not ! That man ! Wait till I get a hold of him."

"He didn't but you just did."

Nova slapped Charon's shoulders lightly as she realised she had been tricked.

The party continued until the early hours when sore feet and drunken falls began to cause a smaller crowd.

Charon scanned the area for his bride but found no sign. A slight panic and a growl rose in his chest. He was still having nightmares of the Institute and what they did to his family. No one was taking them, ever again.

He walked quickly to the edges and felt relief as he spotted his wife holding Alex facing the rotunda.

He walked up quietly behind them.

"A lot of things happened in that building there. Your grandparents died in there and your daddy risked his life to give you clean water." He could hear her speaking to Alex.

"Your granddaddy would have loved you very very much. He was a very smart man and did a lot of things for the people in the Wasteland."

He stood listening to his wife re tell her story.

"He got me into the Vault to keep us safe and it did. I survived and because of that I have you and I wouldn't give you up for the world. Maybe we can show you the vault one day if Auntie Amata isn't a big meanie like she was to me."

Janet kissed Alex on the nose and held him close.

"How many aunts and uncles does that boy have ?" Charon called.

Janet jumped "You scared me there..." she smiled softly "He has many ! He's going to be the most spoiled little boy in the wasteland."

"We will keep him right."

"And his brothers and sisters ?"

"One at a time smoothskin one at a time."

He held his wife close to him and they both looked over the wasteland they helped to revive.

Green sprouted up over the dirt as the fresh water purified the grounds and Super Mutants retreated unable to find a radiated source.

Janet place her head onto Charons chest.

"Let's hope it stays peaceful."

"I doubt it smoothskin."

Alex could only giggle in agreement.

F!Courier/Legionaries

(Anonymous) 2012-02-06 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Evil!Legion!F!Courier has her henchmen mock-crucify her somewhere public (eg. no nails, temporarily).

Bonus points for surreal vision quests on her side and serious wierding-out on their side.

"You were drunk! You all were!" aka The Catholic School Effect

(Anonymous) 2012-02-06 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay so I have this headcanon about Vault 101 and the kids. It's like Catholic school, really. You know--being sheltered and watched and told to be righteous and pure kind of just makes you want to be the opposite. And then we all know about James scolding the LW over being drunk (right after the prom clip), so I'd like if someone could fill out a post-prom after party for the kiddies of vault 101 to let loose -winky face-.

I have preferences--I'm a fan of F!LW/Butch but it's not necessary especially if there's drunk!Amata or something. Really it could turn into an orgy, I don't care. James has to walk in at some point tho.

Random passerby saw this and begs you to do it. Please. Especially now that you had to go and bring Firefly into this. Maybe it all results of some crazy scheme by the courier. Also, where are Boone and Arcade in all this? Raul? What does Lily think of it all???

The Mighty Become Slaves 2/?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-07 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
It didn’t since Vulpes was subservient to Lucius who was still alive, but obviously, she wanted it to be him for obscure reasons. The Courier’s eyes glittered.

“Ah, I don’t think poor Lucius will be alive for much longer.”

Vulpes strained to get a look at Lucius. Indeed she was right. Lucius was too pale, too still, too quiet; his uniform torn, showing raw bullet wounds and quivering flesh. He was struggling to stay awake. Vulpes gritted his teeth.

“So, Vulpes, will you surrender quickly and quietly? I promise to let all of you live,” she cooed.

The commotion started up again. They would never surrender. Caesar and Lanius might be dead, but the ideals of the Legion were still very much alive, would continue to be alive until the last man fell.

She sneered. Her knuckles turned white as their shouts escalated, reedy from bruised throats and open wounds, but strong nevertheless. Vulpes felt lightheaded, but he continued to hurl insults at her. Her sneer turned into a slimy smile. Her fingers drummed against the worn-out armrests.

“All right, have it your way,” she said wryly. She snapped her fingers.

Her hired thugs dragged Vulpes to his feet. He didn’t struggle; he only stared at the Courier with cold, cold eyes. The eyes of the Legion were on him. Lucius’ head was turned towards him, a meaning look in his eyes that Vulpes couldn’t quite understand. His legs trembled as they started to move, but he managed to stay upright, wounded but dignified. Their fingers cruelly dug into his skin. She lingered on the chair, arrogantly leaning back; legs spread wide apart confidently, a petty smile playing on her dark lips.

“He’ll have fun.”

The Legion’s shouts subsided.
----

Vulpes bit his tongue. The burning prongs pressed against his chest, searing wounds and peeling skin. They pressed in harder. He hissed. The chains rattled.

“You’re being difficult,” she complained.

A burly thug turned towards her. “What do we do, Benni?”

“Benni…?” Vulpes murmured, fascinated by the woman’s name, having never heard it.

She looked at him, grey eyes dark with telltale fury. “It’s Bernice,” she spat.

He smiled a bit. “The same name as your almost-killer. How does it feel, Benni? Having something in common with that filth?”

“Not all that bad. Before his death, he gave me the idea of destroying the NCR and the Legion, freeing everybody from you bastards.”

Vulpes looked at her. He never really knew her. Nobody ever knew her. They all underestimated her. That was how she managed to do all this. He wondered how many NCR throats she slit.

“How many?” he rasped. “How many NCR dogs did you put down?”

“That’s none of your business.”

He coughed, pressure building in his chest. “Hsu and Kimball are definitely among them.”

“It was all for the best. The Mojave deserves to be independent.”

“Does it?” he whispered.

The butcher knife cut a line from his navel to his hip, twisting a little deeper at the Courier’s request. They kept at it, prongs and knives and fists used, but no traitorous words spilled from Vulpes’ throat. He only hissed and struggled, staring at the Courier all the while with half-closed eyes, her rust-red hair being the only thing he could focus on.

“Silus would have been a better opinion.”

Her scowl was only getting bigger. She spun on her heel, barking out orders for two brutes to follow her and for the biggest brute to continue his torture. Vulpes’ muffled scream followed her out.
----

All of the prisoners were dragged out. Lucius grunted, head lolling as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. All of them were.

It was mid-morning. They were all sprawled in front of hastily-made stand, cobbled together with leftover wood and rusty nails. Apprehension made their heads spin. Guns were trained on their heads. The mercenaries jeered at them, heckling them to make a move because they wanted to “shoot some shithead”.

They will. They’re not afraid of these dogs. But it would be best to lay low for now, to gather their strength.

Vulpes was dragged out, blinking and frowning at the sunlight. His eyes were bruised from the sleepless night, blood crusted below his nostrils, wrists swollen and lips cracked. He looked terrible, but his bloody grin was triumphant.

Yup, Vulpes definitely is not one to break from physical torture. One would think the courier would know that having met him at Nipton, that cold voice, that smugness. This courier's definitely not a nice one; she's as cruel as Caesar was.

Is LJ eating comments again? I can't believe that this fantastic update doesn't have ten million comments.

I love this. I love the interactions between James and Israel, and I love the way that you've written Veronica.

That line is sheer perfection. It captures Butch's personality so beautifully.

I'll be in my bunk.

Wow. That was incredible. The juxtaposition of the first day and the last day, and the idea that Carla knew what was going to happen... wow.

“You know, they were just old men,” Cass says as they walk through the gate to Jacobstown. Veronica sighs. It is a conversation they’d been having the entire way back. One Veronica was being to hate.

“Cass, I know. It’s just that even old men can be hard and unforgiving. They, the ghoul especially, were interested in Courier.”

“Yeah? A lot of people are interested in Courier. She’s raising some kind hell around here,” Cass comments, leaning down to pick up some snow, letting it fall from her fingers. Veronica watches the snowflakes that melt cling to Cass’ hand.

“Courier has enemies. Enemies she’s too sick to deal with,” she says. “Something just didn’t sit right with me. I’m sorry.” Cass shrugs.

“Don’t apologize to me. I ain’t mad. Besides, it’s a small wasteland. We’ll see them again.”

“No more lies!” The voice is quiet but insistent. It isn’t full of rage, bit a resigned sort of sorrow. They look over to see a familiar flash of a red beret against the snow covered trees. Courier is leaning against one, looking sicker than she did when they left. She’s smoking a cigarette, and stifling her coughing. Veronica makes a move to move toward them, but Cass grabs her arm.

“Wait a minute, kid,” she murmurs. “We should probably go inside.” Veronica looks up at her, and Boone’s soft voice drifts to the through the quiet and cold air.

“You screamed about someone named Autumn, and Charon. Tore the room apart looking for your plasma rifle. No more lies, Catherine. ” Courier sighs, her head leaning back to look at the sky.

“You deserve that much, don’t you? What do you want to know?” she asks.

“Everything. Who are you? Enclave?” he demands. She scowls at the mention of the Enclave, and shakes her head.

“The Lone Wanderer,” she answers. Boone tilts his head, surprise blossoming over his face.

“What?”

“I’m on the radio.” At the blank look Boone gives her, she says, ”You know, ‘Helllooooooo chiiiiiiildren, it’s Three Dog, and I’m here to tell you about that kid from Vault 101!” As soon as she finishes speaking, she closes her eyes. “Hell. This isn’t the Capital Wasteland. Sorry. I’m the Lone Wanderer, Catherine Neil. Honorary Brotherhood Paladin, and scourge of the East Coast Enclave.” She lifts a necklace chain out of her shirt to reveal glittering holotags. “Now I’m Courier, and I’d prefer to keep it that way.”

“You’re Brotherhood?” Veronica and Boone ask at the same time, one sounding excited and the other betrayed. She nods. Cass eyes her warily.

“What in the hell did we miss while we were gone?”

Keep Your Composure 22/?

Doc Henry cleans his medical instruments, and his scalpel gleams in the faint moonlight drifting through the windows.

“You know,” he says. “I never expected to see you again. I thought you were dead.”

“Funny. I could’ve said the same for you. After all, you are two years older than God,” a light voice seemingly teases. But there is an underlying tension to Arcade’s words that permeates the air, and Henry isn’t deaf to it.

“You can’t run far enough, you know,” Henry says after a moment. “All you can do is accept it.”

“Accept what?” Arcade says. “My past? The way you accepted me?”

“Don’t blame me for Moreno’s shortcomings,” Henry says. “We all loved you, Moreno included. He just didn’t know how to show it other than knocking the hell out of you from time to time.” Arcade grits his teeth at his matter-of-fact tone, and shakes off the phantom pains that shoot over his skin from bruises long since healed.

“Subject change,” Arcade says brusquely, and Henry nods.

“Your cyberdog, Rex, is going to be just fine. His memories need time to meld with that of the old scrapyard dog, but he’ll be fine. Can’t say the same for your friend, though. She’s lost what, ten pounds since you arrived?”

“Almost fifteen,” Arcade says quietly. “But who’s counting?” Henry looks over at him and says,

“She looks like him, you know.”

“I know.”

“Have you asked her about him?”

“No,” Arcade says finally, pushing the image of a weary man with blue eyes from his mind. “I haven’t.”

“Afraid of what you’ll hear?” Henry puts down his instruments. “I don’t blame you. We lost all contact with him after Moreno ran him off. He loved your parents, as all of us did.”

“I don’t remember my parents very well,” Arcade admits. “I just remember him.” Henry smiles almost indulgently, and says,

“He was extraordinary. Unforgettable. If you were to see him again, I have no doubt you would recognize him in a heartbeat.” Arcade nods, and reaches over to pat Rex. The dog’s tail wags happily in his sleep, and the doctor smiles.

“I know you always wanted a dog,” Henry says, breaking the tranquil and resigned peace that had come over Arcade. His voice sounds unsure, tentative, as if he had never said the words he was going to say next and wasn’t sure if they would sound right. “I am sorry you never got one.”

“It’s all right. Would’ve been hard with all of the moving around we did. And the hiding.” Arcade pulls his hand away from Rex’s fur, his fingers still curling to touch it. Henry nods and, seeing as there was no more that Arcade was willing to discuss, he leaves Henry, and the memories contained within him , behind.
