Summary: A short clip of what facing down General Oliver could have been like with companion!Vulpes!

I took a little liberty with Oliver's words. They are generally what he says in the scene. (This request has officially pulled me out of lurk mode, I hope this fill doesn't show my noobie-ness to blatantly)!
------------

"Hoover Dam will not fall while I still draw breath." General Oliver was standing above Nero on a second floor. Overlooking the bodies of Legion and NCR soldiers in the badly lit room. Three rangers on either side of him as Nero panted. He could feel the blood mixing with the sweat on the back of his neck. Vulpes was hidden in one of the many cubicles, at least Nero thought he was. He lost track of him a while ago.

He remembered back to when they were fighting. The light skinned man spun as he dragged his ripper through a man's neck and before the blood even hit the floor he had whispered to Nero, "Stay here." He knew better than to mention him now.

"Surrender, General. This dam is almost taken. Would you see more of your men die as they live? Like dogs?" His voice was torn, it felt as if he had drank radscorpion venom as the ache radiated from his vocal chords.

The General didn't move his arms, he must have been used to dealing with the blows of his failures. They were many and often. He offered some weak line, hollow words of counteroffensives and more coming.

"We have the roads blocked. There are no more men coming, General." The title rolled off his tongue roughly, a trill on the r that Vulpes had taught him during their many lessons. Words of an ancient language they both held dear.

"Then we will hold out." A flash. Silent, quick, and efficient one of the rangers to Oliver's right was taken back through the doorway he had been standing in front of. So that's how the game was to be played.

Nero was sure to keep all of their attentions on himself.
"And just how long do you expect to be able to hold?" Nero was sure not to look to often but he took a quick glance to the room where he last saw his friend and he swore he saw the glint of sharp white teeth before Vulpes moved. Back into the shadows, one of his things he wore so well.

Nero preferred him in nothing at all.

"I don't know, but we will stay. Because that's what good soldiers do. Maybe your Legion would run, but we're different." In a short span of time two more rangers were taken. Nero had to sink his canines into his tongue to keep from his grin. Now his companion was just showing off.

"You shouldn't speak of what you have no knowledge of. The Legion has more to offer these lands than you do." A scoff from the general. Another ranger gone. Only one more before the General.

Nero flexed his fingers in his ballistic fist, the inside soaked with sweat. The metallic appendages flexed easily as the the lone man rolled his shoulders. "If you had stayed with the NCR we could save these lands."

"Yes, because you did a great job stopping the Fiends, cleaning Freeside, and you're all so willing to hog all the power from the plant for yourself. You couldn't even keep the streets safe. If you had? I would have never been shot. Would have never gone after Benny. Would have never been invited to the Legion." The last ranger was gone, Vulpes (looking much cleaner, to Nero's surprise) strolled in casually from the door behind Nero.

"One of the few times I find myself...pleased with the profligate's weaknesses." The man took his spot beside Nero, the two contrasting in ever way. Nero's dark skin, light hair, dark eyes.

"Look around you General for you have failed."

Nero ditched his ballistic fist, drawing out a pistol with a lady in blue on the side. Vulpes slid behind him, his chest a steady heat against the Courier's back, to still Nero's hand and aid his aim.

Nero fired the shot before General Oliver even understood what had happened.
