“I’m surprised you wanted to do this,” Veronica said as she pointed the camera at Layla. The sun was high overhead as they walked along the cracked road west of the Strip.
“I just want to find out what happened,” Layla responded, then turned and pointed a suspicious look at the girl holding the camera. “Why are you surprised?”
“Because you’re a total wuss, and this situation’s all freaky.”
The Courier stuck her hands on her hips.
“You’re just as big of a baby about this kind of stuff as I am,” she grumbled. The minor sneer on her face sunk into a worried frown as she looked around the area.
“Do you think we should have asked Raul to come with us?” Layla asked as she wrapped her arms around herself. “Or waited until Boone got home?”
“Boone’s not due back for almost a week, and Sheldon isn’t going to wait forever for us to figure this out,” Veronica said as she focused the camera on the power station they were walking by. “We already know there’s some well-dressed crazy hanging around. We just need to make sure he doesn’t catch us off guard and we’ll be fine.”
“I don’t know…” Layla said, still sounding worried. “We don’t even know for sure if that guy attacked Terry. And that last tape freaked me out. It was like he was a completely different person.”
“Do you want to turn back?” Veronica asked, panning back to the Courier. “We don’t have to do this.”
“Do you want to go home?” Layla asked. There was a brief pause before either spoke.
“I want to know what scared Terry so badly,” Veronica said firmly. “What about you?”
“Yeah, let’s keep going,” Layla said. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
“We could get murdered.”
“Yeah, but that could happened anywhere. Might as well be here.” The shorter girl turned back in Veronica’s direction, then looked at the camera. “Is that thing on?”
“Sure is,” the other girl answered. The courier glared into the lens.
“Turn it off; I’m gonna go crazy if I know you’ve got that thing on me the whole time.”
“I’m getting this all on tape. I want everyone to see how incredibly brave I was and how much of a puss you were.”
“Oh please,” Layla groused. “You’ll be screaming and crying just as bad as I will. Now turn that thing off.”

“Fine, you big baby.”
