Audrey fell into her bed's welcoming embrace. Most nights she found the Vault-Tec standard issue mattress to be too firm for her liking, but after the day she just had sleep, not comfort, was her top priority. Working as the newest intern in Vault 101's clinic was slow going for the most part, with the most exciting things being Stanley's headaches and the occasional Tunnel Snake (or one of their victims) needing treatment, but today was hectic.

It started that morning, with a few people coming in complaining of intense stomach cramps, vomiting, and such. An hour or so later a half a dozen more came in with the same symptoms, and by late that afternoon over a third of the Vault's inhabitants had been diagnosed with food poising. Apparently the batch of ground beef that went into the lasagna had gone bad which meant that anybody who ate the dish for dinner the previous night was affected.

There was a mass panic, despite the fact that everybody in the Vault got a supposedly 'top of the line education,' they all reacted like a bunch of idiots. After almost twelve hours of assuring the Vaults residents that no, food poising was not fatal, and yes they were all going to live, Audrey along with Victoria Wolfe (another intern) were finally able to get everybody back home with simple instructions for self-care. Another three hours was spent cleaning the clinic, sterilizing the instruments, and finishing medical reports.

By the time they finally closed the clinic up for the night Audrey barely had enough energy left to grab a protein bar (she knew the chances of the beef stew they served for dinner also being contaminated were low, but she didn't want to take any chances) and take a quick shower before dragging herself back to her unit.

As soon as she pulled the sheets over her head Audrey fell asleep. It was one of those deep, dreamless sleep that only came with intense exhaustion and she was sure that nothing could wake her up-

Tap, tap, tap.

-except for some idiot tapping on her window. She waited for a moment to see if it was just her imagination, but after a few seconds it happened again. Maybe if I just ignore them they'll go away? her groggy mind hoped, but to no avail. The tapping continued, becoming more and more insistent until it was on the verge of banging.

O-fucking-kay!” she yelled, the thick green comforter that adorned her bed flying to the floor as she pulled it off of her with more force than necessary. She didn't even bother to grab a robe as she stomped towards the door. It was late, well past curfew even, and there were only three people that would have a reason to come to her apartment at this hour, all of which had seen her in less than the skimpy tank and shorts combo that made up her sleepwear.
