Vegas Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1a)
(Anonymous) 2011-10-27 06:06 am (UTC)(link)Veronica, Caesar, Boone, Carla, Courier, Cass, and more to come
Sitting in the classroom, Veronica Hayward looked over her side parted shoulder length hair, and pursed her red painted lips. Carla wasn’t here again today and something about the empty chair seemed foreboding to Veronica. She looked across the room at Cass Horne, who nodded at Veronica like it was okay, but joined her in staring at the chair nervously.
Ms. Farkas continued her lecture, only to be interrupted by a knock on the door. Ms. Farkas told her students to “wait a minute,” and walked out into the hall with the principle, her expression visibly dropping as the older woman talked. Turning the knob, the teacher walked back into the room, sat down in her chair, and stared ahead like something was wrong. Veronica Hayward glanced over at Carla’s chair and got a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach.
“Attention students,” A voice founded from the PA over head, “This is principle Crawford…It’s my unfortunate duty to tell all of you that Carla Palmer was found dead today on the shores of Lake Vegas Peaks. The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but if you have any information about Carla’s whereabouts yesterday, we ask you to share that information with the Vegas Peaks police department. I understand this will be a hard time for many of you, Carla being as popular as she was, and our school counselors will be meeting with each of you to discuss your feelings during this time.”
Veronica didn’t hear any of the announcements past the part about Carla Palmer being dead. She looked over at the chair, a single tear rolling dramatically down her face, and stood up to walk out of the room. Moving down the halls the only thing she could think of was to get to Edward, who everyone called Caesar, and find out what he knew about the situation. Caesar had been dating Carla when she was made homecoming queen, and they both knew she was sneaking off and doing drugs, but they never dreamed whatever Carla was up to would get her murdered.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-27 06:24 am (UTC)(link)“Fascinating,” Francine Garret said as she wipped the bar of her small diner, “We don’t get a lot of FBI around here…I guess you’re here because of what happened to poor Carla Palmer.”
“Did you know anything about Carla Palmer,” Dale asked.
“She came by every weekday morning and did her meals on wheels run,” Francine said, pausing to blow her curled blond hair out of her eyes. “She was a real nice girl. Don’t know why someone’d want to go and hurt her.”
“So would you say you and Carla Palmer were close?”
“Hah. Agent Six, Carla was a teenager girl, her head in the sky, her heart on her sleeve,” Francine said, “I’m just an old woman who runs a diner. From different planets you see.”
“I see,” Dale responded. “Thought I wouldn’t call a pretty lady like you old.”
Francine smiled at Dale sweetly, then said, “I can tell you’re from out of town. I’m afraid only people who never met my husband flirt with me.”
“Oh, why is that?”
“Well, he’s in jail right now for manslaughter,” Francine responded. “His names Vulpes, I know, odd name. He was involved in a fatal car accident that killed the owner of the Saw Mill.”
“Sorry to hear it,” Dale said.
“No problem,” Francine said,” Now if you want some real information, I’d try asking that young man over there.”
Francine gently gestured at Bobby Boone. Dale opened up a pocket recorder and read into the machine, “Eddy, take this down. Francine, maker of a fine cup of coffee and voicer of some fine conversation has indicated to me that I perhaps want to speak to one Bobby Boone. Bobby Boone looks to be around eighteen, with light brown hair combed into a pompadour, strong chin. He looks sullen Eddy. Upset like he just lost the love of his life. Make a note of that Eddy. Oh, and Eddy, remind me to look into affordable real-estate in this town. I have a funny feeling this is the kind of place a man like me would love to settle down.”
Placing the recorder back in his pocket, Dale walked across the diner to sit at the booth with Bobby Boone, who barely looked up at the FBI agent.
“Can I help you with something?” Boone asked.
“I hear you were pretty close to Carla Palmer,” Agent Six said.
“Yeah, we went out for awhile. Carla was a swell girl, that’s about all I have to say about it.”
“Did you see her the night of her murder?” Dale asked.
“Are you asking me if I had anything to do with her death?” Bobby Boone asked as he leaned in aggressively.
“In a fashion, yes.”
“Well, I don’t know nothing about her murder,” Bobby said, as he slammed a dollar on the table and walked away from the FBI agent.
