“I can’t believe Sheldon let us borrow this,” Veronica said wickedly. “I can’t want to start springing it on people when they’re asleep or on the can.”

“Veronica, I will do permanent damage to you if EVER take footage of me in the bathroom,” Layla growled at her. The scribe all but pressed the holo-vid recorder in her face.

“I’m not going to do that… probably.”

The Courier gave her a glare, which made the other girl laugh.

“Calm down, I’m just kidding.”

“Well, turn that thing off,” Layla said, “We’re supposed to be going over this stuff.”

“I’m not looking forward to seventy-two hours’ worth of footage, especially since it’s all supposed to be abandoned farm houses,” Veronica said sourly.

“I don’t know, Michael Angelo sounded pretty spooked about it. He thinks his buddy Terry got scared off by something he found out there.”

“Okay, well that sounds more interesting,” Veronica amended, “but later we’re gonna go track down Arcade, get him drunk and have him confess to embarrassing things on camera.”

“… If there’s time.”

∙ Started going through the videos.

∙ So far, what we understand the least is why there’s so much footage. The first video seems to have most of what Michael Angelo asked for, and it’s four hours long. There are 68 more hours of tape left.

Terry focused on an old, abandoned homestead, framed by mountains in the distance. The camera turned right, and a power station came into view in front of the old buildings that lined the road. The Lucky 38 was visible further back in the distance.

Terry turned the camera on a passing caravan. The people looked back curiously. One of the guards waved.

“Is that a camera?” she asked.

“It’s a holo-vid recorder,” Terry answered. “I’m recording this for a friend of mine.” The woman seems impressed.

“Hello!” She waved again.

“Come on, Bunny, we have to keep moving,” one of the caravaneers said. Bunny waved one last time before rejoining the others.

The view blurred for a moment as Terry swung the camera back around. The machine struggled to get into focus as the shot panned to an old, rusted building next to an overturned silo. Once the caravan had passed, the only visible person was a tall man in a dark suit standing by the silo. Panning to the side again, Terry focused on an NCR patrol that was making its way up the road toward the Strip.

“All right, Sheldon. Time for a break,” Terry said. “I’ll start for the next one after dinner.”

“There’s another homestead back here,” Terry said to the camera. “I don’t know if you knew about it, Sheldon. I’m gonna go have a quick look.”

He headed toward the mountains and up a small hill. Once he crested it, another farm was visible.

“Huh,” Terry continued. “Looks like someone built over the downed silo.” He pointed the camera at a series of catwalks built on top of an overturned silo and connecting to the house.

“This must have been a ranch, see?” The camera moved to point at a fenced area.

“Just like in the old vids. People would keep cows here.” Terry moved closer. “Looks like a bunch of tumbleweeds got caught in here.”

“You want to buy a wind brahmin?” came a voice from off camera.

“AH! Where did you come from?!” Terry cried, and suddenly the view dropped to the ground.

“I come from here,” the gruff-sounding voice replied. “Where you come from?” he added, sounding suspicious. The view shifted, probably from Terry picking up the camera, and focused on a nightkin standing a few feet away.

“I uh... I came from there.” Terry turned, and his arm was visible on screen as he pointed to the distant skyline of the Strip.

“Hmph,” the mutant grunted. “Big noises and lights. Forget that. Do you want to buy wind brahmin or not?”

“Wind brahmin? Do you mean the tumbleweed?” Terry asked, pointing the camera toward a cluster of them.

“What tumbleweed? Do you want brahmin or not?” the nightkin demanded, taking a threatening step toward the man.

“Oh… Uh, how much?”

“All,” the super mutant said.

“A-all?”

“Yeah, they good quality. All.”

“All I’ve got is five caps…”

“Good, give.”

Terry handed over the money, then moved toward the tumbleweeds.

“Go on, they no bite,” the nightkin said off camera.

“Great,” Terry responded. The camera shifted as he leaned over and grabbed one.

He walked out of the pen and pointed the camera at his new purchase.

“The things I do for you, Sheldon.”

I have been thinking about this fill for a while and hoping for an update. It may drive me insane before we get the ending. XD Loving it! Really looking forward to finding out what happens.

∙ We’ve been going through the tapes in the order they were packed. None of them are marked in any way. So far, they’ve all seemed to be in chronological order. This one must be out of place.

“Oh God, Oh G-” Terry’s voice cut out in a burst of static as the image from the camera shook. The shaking was rhythmic, though violent; Terry was running.

The room was dark. Not much was visible as the man continued running. He stumbled over what looked like broken furniture and garbage, then regained his footing. The static abruptly ended and was replaced by Terry’s panicked screams. His voice sounded heavily distorted as the screen pixelated for a moment.

The video seemed to skip ahead, and Terry was running toward a door. He reached it and threw it open, revealing an even darker exterior. The image began shaking again as he ran out into the open. He stopped and lowered the camera, which began auto-focusing on the ground of dirt and sparse grass. A moment later, he hastily raised it up to look ahead again. At first, nothing was visible, then he panned slightly to the left, and a tall man in a dark suit came into view only yards from where Terry stood. The video seemed to have trouble focusing, making it impossible to see his face.

Terry turned and bolted in the opposite direction. The picture seemed to freeze, showing a blurry, distorted view of the ground and the side of the building, then the video went blank.

Yikes!

Ugh so excited already, a!a, fabulous opening and the latest part gave me chills.

“Well, here I am,” Terry said with a sigh, “living the good life. The Strip is only a couple miles away and I’m stuck in a blown-out barn.”

“At least I have Ultra Luxe-quality food,” the man added sarcastically, pointing the camera down at his small camp fire. A can of Cram sat next to the flames.

“You owe me dinner at a casino after this,” Terry continued muttering as he set the camera on the floor. The far corner of the room was now in view, and in the corner stood a tall man in a suit, too far out of the light to make out his face properly.

“One with showgirls,” Terry continued, apparently not aware of the other person in the room. “Not the Gomorrah though. I can picture it now: I’m settling into a nice steak with a couple girls shaking their cans in my face and one of my sisters bursts into the building screaming. Or my mother…”

The sounds of Terry opening the can and eating could be heard. The man remained standing in the corner the whole time, not moving.

“Anyway, I guess I’d better sleep,” Terry said. “I’ll be moving on soon. Gotta get the rest of your shots.” He picked up the camera and turned it to face him. Over his shoulder, the tall, suited man could be seen, slightly closer now.

“Good night, Sheldon.”

∙ Some of the later tapes look like Terry didn’t know the camera was recording.

∙ He also seems not to have left the area, despite the fact he kept saying he would.

∙ We’re almost at the end of the tapes, and we still haven’t seen anything that makes sense of this mess.

The video began with the camera apparently on the floor. Half of the shot was taken up by a jacket dropped nearby. Terry sat on the floor across the room. The camera auto-focused between him and the jacket, making his features blur in and out.

“I just don’t think I should go,” Terry muttered to himself as he looked at the ground before him. “They… he wants me there, but I’m not going.” His voice sounded panicked.

“Look what happened to those raiders! I’m not going, not going not going. Nothing will get me into that barn again. No no no no no no. It’s open. Anyone can see you.”

His head jerked violently to the side, looking off-camera. He bolted to his feet and began gathering up his things. The video cut out.

Terry stood in a dark room, the camera pointed at his face, apparently held up by his own hands.

“Sheldon, thank you for asking me to come here,” Terry said in a calm, even voice. “I’ll return your camera and the tapes now. I hope you’ll be able to use what I’ve found.”

A ribbon of distortion crawled up the screen as he continued.

“I’m sure you probably wanted a few other homesteads, but this one really had what you needed. What I needed. Thank you again.”

The video ended.

∙ We're going to give Michael Angelo back his equipment soon. We went over and told him what happened, but he didn't seem to be a in a rush to get everything back. I'm glad this is over, but I'm sad to see the camera go. We're going to use up the last couple tapes first.
