"You'll find a way. Working at the Express it basically the only good-looking thing on my college application, I'm not going to let you ruin that with your plotting."
Benny pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head. "You have... really got to stop calling that rag by its proper name. Just call it 'the paper'. Do you know how you sound half the time?"
Roger was too engrossed in defending the integrity of the New Vegas High Express and as a result almost walked directly into Boone's chest. He looked up to give him a properly annoyed glare. "May I ask why you've planted yourself here?" he asked when the guy didn't move.
Boone looked at him with the same deadly seriousness he brought to everything he did. "I need you to help me run for prom king," he said.
Roger gaped, certain he had misheard. "Run for--" He turned to Benny. "What did you do?"
"I like how you just assume this is my fault," Benny smirked. He nodded at Boone and said, "It's cute that you think you can compete in the big leagues, Legs, but the race is a done deal, so slow your roll."
"Wait," Roger said, brow knit together in open confusion, "so this isn't your doing?"
"It is," Boone said, and held up the heavily crinkled poster. "I need you to get me into the print room and show me how to make more of these."
"Let me see that mess," Benny said, snatching the poster out of his hands. "Pal, if this was my doing, I wouldn't've gone with this stinkin' picture, I can tell you that. You look presentable. I'd've used that snap from the night Cass slipped some of her hooch into your Nuka-Cola."
"The one with the--?" Boone narrowed his eyes. "You promised me you destroyed that."
"Did I? Then disregard. My point is, bub, you throw your hat into the ring for real and you're askin' to be publicly spanked, dig?"
"You think I'm scared of you?" Boone said, tilting his jaw up.
"No, I think you're a misguided fink who must be screwed in the head if he thinks he can really get that crown away from me," Benny said, closing the distance between him and staring him down.
"Okay, you two can neck later," Roger said, insinuating himself between the two. "Boone, seriously, since when have you given half a rat's ass about prom king? Since when did the crown matter to you?"
"This ain't about the crown," Boone said resolutely. "It's about the girl."
He snatched the poster out of Benny's hand and stalked off down the hall, leaving Benny and Roger watching him.
"Do you think he practices in the mirror?" Benny asked.
"Oh, like you don't."
