Say They Fear Her (f!courier/siri) (dubcon, referenced noncon) (46a/?)
Date: 2016-04-22 01:44 pm (UTC)“Excuse me, miss priestess?” Dredge stands just outside the door to the adobe hut. Wrings her hands in the hem of her shirt. “I got something to talk to you about.”
“Come on in,” the priestess calls. Dredge muscles the door aside, steps into the hut. “What can I do for you?” the priestess asks, bustles around a corner from the back room.
“You know the boss, right?”
“Lucia? yes, quite well.”
“Well, uh, where you know her from?”
“From before we were Legion.” The priestess narrows her eyes, stops her bustling to fix her gaze on Dredge. “Why?”
‘Well I just wanted to, uh--you know her’n the doc, right?”
“What about them?”
“Well, they know each other real well, if you catch my drift, ma’am.”
“‘Real well’?” The priestess asks. “How ‘real well’?”
“Well I seen ‘em sittin’--” Dredge meshes her fingers together, works her palms in and out without moving her fingers. “together together.”
“Did they know you saw them?”
“Nah, nah, I was gettin’ up to piss, because they were out on watch, let Watch have the night off--she’s one of the Legion girls. Real sharp eye though. Killed someone to get here. But the boss gave her the night off, said she was gonna stay up and keep watch. Doc stayed up with her, readin’. Looked out the window and I saw em all over each other. Still dressed and all, they ain’t that love-stupid, but they’re--together. They gotta be.”
“Thank you for the information, miss.” The priestess grins, big and feral, gleam in her eye like the old ladies of the tribe had too, when they saw a couple young people together. “Now what’s your name?”
“Dredge, ma’am, just had a baby. Came outta Wyoming.” She pauses for a moment, shuffles her feet in the dust. “Knew your tribe, back before I ’s Legion. Had some of you come through a couple times a year, always thought you were all witches, with the birds.” She laughs. “Still ain't convinced, I seen the boss with that big ol’ raven of hers. Treats that bird better’n she treats most people.”
“Oh?” the priestess asks. “Would you mind sitting down? I certainly have the time to talk.”
“I, uh, sure, ma’am.” Dredge reaches for the closest chair, settles into it.
“They’ve been telling me they aren’t together, every time I’ve asked.” Owl-Eagle drums her fingers on the table.

Date: 2016-04-22 01:49 pm (UTC)Dredge shrugs.
“Boss seems to think any of us gives a shit. Twis does, but that's only because Twist don’t like the boss in the first place, and I don’t think she actually gives a shit that the boss and Doc are sharing chairs’n mattresses.” Dredge leans forward on her elbows. “Ain’t kept us up all night, ain’t like Burn’n Drummer’n Runner. Boss had to yell at ‘em one night because we could all hear em.” Dredge bursts into a grin, and Owl-Eagle laughs.
“Why are you telling me this?” Owl-Eagle asks, still smiling, leans forward on one hand. Her eyes drift half-closed.
“Boss ain’t gonna stay at this forever,” Dredge says. “I seen enough girls like her. Seen ‘em go to your sort. I give her shit about her’n the Doc, but she keeps tellin’ me it ain’t true, so maybe she’ll listen to you. Stuff I heard from Doc says maybe she’s got more respect for you’n she has for the rest of us.” Dredge flattens her hands on the tabletop, then picks up her fingers, starts drumming. “And I want outta this. Ain’t never been a people person, ain’t never been able to get people to like me by sayin’ the right things, Doc already don’t like me, ain’t got a chance of convincing the Boss to quit it. You though.” Dredge leans forward a little, stops drumming. “She’s got respect for you.”
“You want me to tell her to quit?”
“If you can, yeah,” Dredge agrees, nods, finally breaks eye contact to look back at the house. “Ain’t good for the kids. Photo, Birdy, Photo’s baby, my baby.” Dredge looks back to Owl-Eagle, shrugs. “Let them outta the Legion, if nothing else.”
“I’m glad you have such faith that she’ll take all of you with her when she goes,” Owl-Eagle murmurs.
Dredge turns her head, looks at Owl-Eagle out of the corner of her eye. She opens her mouth to say something, then closes it again, before speaking.
“Thought I oughta come tell you all that. Also wanted to maybe get a Legion sort of name for my baby. She’s got her real name and the name I call her around the team, but I figure she oughta have something for a census or something. Figured you’re the one to talk to about that. Thought I should come ask before I brought her over.”
“Of course I can give her a name. Does Birdy need her baby named too?”
Dredge looks back over her shoulder, sighs out her nose.
“If she does, I ain’t doing it for her. Kid still ain't made a decision on some shit. Think she has, but I ain’t gonna assume.”
Owl-Eagle nods.
“You bring your baby over, I’ll give her a name.”
“Be back in just a few,” Dredge agrees, hops up, scoots out the door.
