Prompt: Arcade and Jimmy have an awkward moment about Latin

“Don’t,” he said calmly.
Arcade stilled mid-emphatic gesture, hand held uselessly in midair. “Did I say something wrong?”
Jimmy crossed his legs and propped his chin on his hand, wondering why it was the smartest ones who were always the most dense. “You ever take a second to think about who the last people were who spoke Latin to me, sugar?”
Realization slowly dawned and Arcade looked away, mortified. Jimmy liked Arcade, he really did. He was a good customer, loyal and regular, never demanding discounts or anything beyond what Jimmy was prepared to do or have done, but he was cursed with the kind of thoughtlessness unique to clever men who liked the sound of their own voice.
“I didn’t think,” he said softly, sitting on the end of the bed. His grey undershorts were crumpled at the back, the tag peeking out over the elastic. Jimmy reached over and tucked it back in, brushing a hand across the fine golden hair scattered over Arcade’s lower back.
“I know you didn’t, sugar,” he said softly. “But do me a favour.” Jimmy leaned back on the faded pillows, hands laced behind his head. His voiced hardened. “If you want to keep buying my affection, you might want to try thinking before you talk.”
